Week 4, Part IV

Receptive Gates – Heart Center

About Gates: each one represents a different archetypal theme. Every gate/theme is inherently neutral and can be experienced or expressed in either beneficial/positive or detrimental/negative ways. Everyone experiences all gates/themes in different ways throughout their lifetime.

My experiences of the themes of all Heart Gates except 1 will be variable, inconsistent, and dependent on the people I’m with. If I notice these variations, I’ll know that I’m picking up on signals generated by those around me. I can use the descriptions below to help me identify what I’m experiencing and the source, which will help me gain clarity. If I want to test whether something I’m experiencing is “mine,” I can give myself some space and gauge what changes.

If I regularly take time to connect with myself, I’ll become aware of external influence as it happens and process it as information about the people around me without allowing it to obfuscate what I know to be true about myself.

Relationships with people who have activated Heart Gates that complete channels for me (10, 13, 15, & 46) will give me the experience of Heart activation similar to those with an activated Gate 8; more details are in the descriptions for the Centers with my activated Gates. The experience of Heart activation will be felt most strongly through Gate 1 (Purpose).

Since I’ll notice the effects of others most in Gates that complete channels, I should pay extra attention to the difference between novice and wise expression so I’ll have the awareness to actively choose what I want to experience and recognize what pitfalls are likely to play out if I pursue that relationship (this includes friendships, business partnerships, etc.).

If I strongly identify with the novice or wise expression of these Gates, then I probably grew up with that conditioning influence and am expressing it through memory or have recreated those influences around me, either consciously or unintentionally.

Gate 13 is affected by a number of receptive influences and will likely figure prominently in my experiences.

13: Gate of Narrative

Theme: Looking Back & Listening

Resiliency keys: lovability, authenticity, courage, decisiveness

Novice Expression

• Staying stuck in old stories
• Holding on to old past pains
• Staying the victim in a story that repeats itself because my personal narrative is stuck

Wisdom and Optimal Expression

• The ability to use the power of personal narrative to create with power and intention

Additional Subtle Influences

Pride (13.2, more apparent) – This aspect is about overcoming hubris, which is founded on low self-esteem, and developing pride in my self, which reflects healthy self-esteem. Pride will influence this Gate to be an area where I can have too much belief in my own detrimental opinions to the point of stubborn unwillingness to reconsider my position even in the face of evidence. I’ll need to cultivate healthy humility to learn from others and be open to expanding my opinions in ways that contribute to my growth and fulfillment. Once I’ve gained wisdom, this influence can instead show up as standing up for myself and the energetic “snap” I need to wake me up and motivate me to move out of a demeaning situation.

Since this is a receptive Gate for me, this influence may reflect a tendency to hold onto opinions and/or perspectives conditioned during childhood. I’ll feel this in my experiences with my Gate 33 (Throat). Due to the line 2, I will likely integrate what I’ve learned from relationships during alone time outside or between relationships.

I Ching guidance for this influence, Line 2 – Whether companionship takes the form of an intimate relationship between two people or a larger community of family and friends, it is vital that each person’s individual strengths have room to grow and that they avoid creating relationships of dependence. When individual strengths are united in accordance with inner truth, they create an energy field that can manifest heaven on earth.

Resistance (13.1, less apparent) – Under this influence, Gate 13 becomes the area of my circuitry where I say, “I will not submit to any system which refuses to acknowledge me as my full and authentic self.” It reflects a refusal to surrender to any system or person that seeks to objectify or blame me for their own misdeeds. Novice expression influences a tendency to refuse to surrender to ANY system or person, even when that surrender would be beneficial to me – to burn bridges, “cut off my nose to spite my face,” etc. With wisdom, this influence becomes an ability to speak and act with fierce personal integrity. The lesson is to know how to choose my battles wisely and to my greatest benefit.

I Ching guidance for this influence, Line 1 – The one-man band has no real place in the nurturing of fellowship. Instead, fellowship is like an orchestra. There are many different instruments, each with its own capacity for making music. Alone they have a beauty in their own right; together, they can create something larger than the sum of the parts. If you have an opportunity to play in an orchestra, take it – it can add a richness of experience that will also enhance your solo performances.

Heroism (13.2, less apparent) – This influence gives me strength and courage in Gate 13, especially in times of adversity.

Passion (sexual) (13.1, more apparent) – In combination with the influences above, this influence will likely involve standing up to and overcoming any conditioning that included shaming stories about being a passionate person, my sexuality, etc.

This Gate promises to be an interesting area of learning. When I’ve mastered Hubris and Resistance, Heroism will give me the strength and courage to fight the right battles with wisdom. Since Gate 13 is receptive, this growth will allow me to serve as an example for others of liberation from old stories and the creation of new, uplifting narratives. My Gate 13 is an example of how receptivity in circuitry can be as impactful as activation.

2: Gate of Allowing

Theme: Support

Resiliency keys: lovability, authenticity, courage, decisiveness

Novice Expression

• Experiencing stress, fear, and ultimately compromise regarding what I want and who I am because I don’t trust that I’m supported
• Being valiantly self-sufficient to the point of burning myself out
• Never asking for help

Wisdom and Optimal Expression

• Setting intentions and moving solidly towards the fulfillment of my Authentic Self with complete trust that I’m supported in being the full expression of who I am and my life purpose, even if I don’t know how or what the support will look like
• Trusting in Source
• Living in a state of gratitude

7: Gate of Collaboration

Theme: Democratic Leadership

Resiliency keys: courage, decisiveness, vitality, empowerment

Novice Expression

• Struggling and fighting to be seen and recognized as the leader at a cost to my energy and the fulfillment of my purpose

Wisdom and Optimal Expression

• Embracing the idea that power comes from supporting, influencing, and collaborating with leadership
• Recognizing that I don’t have to be the figurehead to influence the direction that leadership assumes
• Unifying people around an idea that influences the direction of leadership

10: Gate of Self-Love

Theme: Empowerment or Blame

Resiliency keys: lovability, authenticity, courage, decisiveness

Novice Expression

• Questioning my lovability, struggling to prove my love-worthiness, giving up and settling for less than what I deserve, and blaming others for my circumstances and situation
• Victim consciousness

Wisdom and Optimal Expression

• Seeing my love for myself as the source of my true creative power

15: Gate of Compassion

Theme: The Love of Humanity

Resiliency keys: lovability, authenticity, courage, decisiveness

Novice Expression

• Self-judgement and extreme habits that are frenetic and non-productive
• Trying to force my natural waves of rhythm into the daily practices and habits that the world defines as successful and struggling with follow-through
• Denying my own Heart
• Being too afraid to do what feels right

Wisdom and Optimal Expression

• The ability to trust my own flow and rhythm
• Having the courage to do the right thing even if I’m worried about not having enough

25: Gate of Spirit

Theme: The Love of Spirit (Trusting the Universe & Flow of Life)

Resiliency keys: lovability, authenticity, courage, decisiveness

Novice Expression

• Fear and mistrust of Source/Spirit/the universe
• Using life strictly for personal gains regardless of the impact on others
• Ego in its lowest expression
• Not feeling worthy of being loved by Source/Spirit/the universe
• Using my will power to create instead of alignment

Wisdom and Optimal Expression

• Connecting with Source/Spirit/the universe with consistency and diligence to fulfill my purpose and true story of my Authentic Self
• Using my alignment with Source/Spirit/the universe to be a healing influence

Additional Subtle Influences

Sacred (25.5, less apparent) – This aspect will influence this Gate to be the area I hold most sacred in defiance of all logic. No amount of debate, nagging, or brainwashing will change my stance. I’ll pick up on others’ signals, but they won’t change where I stand. Since this is the Gate of Spirit, if I lack spiritual belief or faith in the universe, that will be the conviction I hold. I’m still capable of learning and development in this area, and any faith I cultivate will be equally unshakeable. Line 5 means I’ll experience the projection of others and learn the right people/place to support whatever faith I want to have.

I Ching guidance for this influence, Line 5 – Life is a gradual flowering that unfolds the unique potential of every being and unfailingly supports that uniqueness in realizing its divine nature. In the East, the realization of divine nature is called enlightenment. It is the return to innocence after a fall from grace; it is to be twice born- once as Gautama, then as Buddha, once as Jesus then as Christ. The return to innocence is the birthright of every human that has ever been and will ever be nurtured by life on this earth. Trust that this inner unfolding will take you through challenging times, and let nature take its course.

46: Gate of Embodiment

Theme: Embodiment

Resiliency keys: lovability, authenticity, courage, decisiveness

Novice Expression

• Disconnecting from my body and/or hating my body
• Avoiding nurturing or taking care of my body
• Avoiding the commitments and consistency necessary to embody life with vitality
• To hide or harm my body
• Denying the sensual nature of my body due to misplaced shame
• Ignoring the signals I receive from my body regarding my alignment (what feels good/right and what doesn’t)

Wisdom and Optimal Expression

• Recognizing that my body is the vehicle for my soul
• Loving my body as a vital element of my soul’s expression in life
• Nurturing, being grounded in, and fully caring for my body
• Savoring the physicality of the human experience
• Exploring how to embody my Spirit in my body fully
• Being committed and devoted to seeing how much life force I can embody in my physical form
• Loving the sensual nature of my body and to move it with love and awareness
• To recognize my body as a barometer for alignment and respect the signals it gives me

Additional Subtle Influences

Renewal (46.1, more apparent; 46.2, less apparent) – This aspect will influence this Gate to be the area in which I can create a clean slate and return to a state of innocence/purity. In the context of a receptive Gate, this will likely involve deconditioning patterns created by signals I picked up from others during my life.

I Ching guidance for this influence, Line 1 – In the atmosphere of advancement that characterizes the time of Embodiment, everybody is benefited no matter what their place in the natural order of things. The smallest sprout is encouraged to flower as much as the mightiest tree. Don’t fall into the habit of looking around and comparing yourself with others. Just step onto the dance floor and you’ll find plenty of partners ready to enjoy the party with you.

I Ching guidance for this influence, Line 2 – You’ve been carrying a treasure that might have gone unrecognized up till now, either because of your own modesty or because others have been looking for more obvious talents. Now you might find yourself suddenly appreciated for qualities that you didn’t know you had or knew, but have long taken for granted. It might throw you a little off balance at first, but what a pleasant surprise! Don’t make a fuss about it, even when others might be making a fuss over you. All that’s needed is that you keep on being who you are.

Affirmation for the Receptive Heart

• I am who I am. I am forgiving. I am trusting. I am vital. I am supported. I am compassionate. I am love. I am powerful.

Sound frequencies: listening while meditating on affirmations (or simply repeating them) can help with finding balance and healing.

Contemplations

    1. For each gate above, are there any relationships that stand out to me as influencing me toward novice expression? Toward wise expression?
    2. Are there any expression descriptions (novice or wise) that I’ve noticed I only feel or experience around a certain person or people?
    3. For each gate above, are there any ideas or beliefs that were instilled in me by others while I was growing up?
    4. Are there patterns from childhood that I’ve repeated in my adult relationships and/or choices?
    5. Are there any patterns, beliefs, relationships, or circumstances that I want to change or release? Any that I want to cultivate or expand?
    6. Do I question my lovability?
    7. Am I struggling to find direction?
    8. Do I love where I live? Where I work? Who I’m with?

If I want more insight, I can always request a message from the universe.
