Week 7, Part II

Activated Gates – Creativity Center

About Gates: each one represents a different archetypal theme. Every gate/theme is inherently neutral and can be experienced or expressed in either beneficial/positive or detrimental/negative ways. Everyone experiences all gates/themes in different ways throughout their lifetime.

I have three activated Creativity Gates, which means that these aspects of emotion/mood and my sense of emotional wisdom will be less variable.

Clicking on the Gate will take me to the I Ching description of the archetype, which offers guidance on the atmosphere of transitioning from novice to wise expression.

37: Gate of Peace (with Line 6)

Theme: The need to be “at peace”

Resiliency keys: emotional wisdom, courage, empowerment, decisiveness

Since my receptive Creativity Center creates the urge to please others at the expense of my own happiness and wellbeing, my activated Gates will be the areas in which I’m most likely to see this challenge play out. This Gate carries a deep need for peace, so in novice expression, I’ll likely try to obtain the peace I need by making others happy rather than cultivating the inner peace that is the only reliable source of peace.

When I’m ignoring my own needs to focus on what will make others happy, I may achieve external peace but it’s not sustainable because I’m living in a state of inner disruption. When I create my life from a place of inner disruption rather than inner peace, everything I create will be out of order and unstable, regardless of whom I’m managing to make happy.

It’s only a matter of time before I burn out trying to make other people happy and can no longer continue, which causes my world to fall into chaos again, through their reactions and/or mine. It’s a trigger for self-destructive behavior, but the behavior that’s happening is actually an attempt to protect myself from the harm caused to me by people-pleasing.

Self-destructive choices are actually my higher self trying to get my attention and pleading for what it needs. It’s trying to say that the situation can’t continue as it is and it must stop, one way or another, either by courageously and consciously choosing to enact change in ways that support my sense of self-worth or by making choices that will provoke others to make changes.

The former scenario requires me to give myself permission to follow my heart and prioritize my needs; it’s also much more respectful and kinder to everyone involved. The latter scenario feels less risky in the moment because it doesn’t require courage and I’ll think I can continue maintaining appearances so destruction won’t happen, but it’s actually far riskier because it’s more likely to negatively impact my sense of self-worth and cause losses that I never intended.

Since this Gate has line 6, my development in this theme will be tied to the development of the line 6 in my Profile.

Focus:  Inner peace will bring me genuine, dependable external peace, and not the other way around. In cultivating inner peace, I can learn to meet my needs in ways that create sustainably dependable situations and avoid self-destructive choices. To bring the stability my line 4 Profile craves, learning to cultivate inner peace is crucial. This is likely to be a primary area of learning for Stage 2 of my line 6 Profile.

Novice Expression (“Friendship”)

• Desperately struggling to find peace outside of myself
• Trying to control the outer world to create inner peace

Lessons/Challenges (“The Family“)

• To find inner peace as the true source of outer peace
• To not let chaos and outer circumstances knock me off my center and disrupt my peace

Wisdom and Optimal Expression (“Peace”)

• Staying connected to sustainable peace
• Responding to life by generating peace no matter what is happening in my reality
• Creating the emotional alignment to make peaceful choices no matter what’s happening in the outer world

Values: What I truly value, especially in my relationships with others – 37.6

In novice expression, valuing peace in my relationships will likely show up as choosing people who are easy to please, seek to please me so it’s easier for me to please others, and/or restrict my ability to behave self-destructively. In other words, when I’m trying to maintain peace externally, I’ll more likely value relationships who engage with the same dynamics, even though they don’t bring sustainable peace.

As I gain wisdom and cultivate inner peace, I’ll learn to value those who engage with the dynamics of sustainable peace: loving and valuing me for my authentic self, respecting my need for freedom, maintaining their own happiness instead of needing/expecting me to do so, etc.

Ultimately, I’ll move from relying on codependency in order to trust a relationship toward valuing healthy interdependency.

I’ll be more aware of this Values theme. My less apparent theme will be found in Gate 43 of my Mind Center, and I’ll want to consider how the two Gates work together.

The learning modality I’ll experience will be through Line 6 and will work the same way as the line 6 in my Profile.

A bit of insight from the I Ching (linked to Gate name above) that might give a clue about navigating the change from novice expression to wisdom – I’ll know if/when it becomes useful:

Line 6 – At the end of the day, it’s the guy at the top who is held accountable for the successes or failures of the group. If you faithfully walk your talk without compromising your truth or your vision, others will be supportive and there will be progress.

Additional Subtle Influences

Hidden Gift
(37.3, less apparent) – This aspect shows where I have hidden gifts that I’ve been led to believe are a curse, so I’ve tried to keep a lid on them. It shows ways I might have controlled myself to meet the expectations of my family/community and the world. It’s also the area in my natural curiosity will lead me to explore in search of a deeper truth. This is especially true with the line 3 (exploration and experiential learning).

I Ching guidance for this influence, Line 3 – A lax attitude at home or at work is creating an undercurrent of permissiveness, creating the opportunity for certain individuals to take more and more for granted. It’s essential to take a firm stand now or matters will soon spin out of control. Be sharp and clear and decisive; if your method is overly forceful, it might wound others, but even that is preferable to ignoring the problem and everyone suffering for it later.

Private Self (37.3, more apparent) – This aspect shows where I may find relationships too restrictive, where I need to allow myself time/space to be alone and break free from the demands of anyone’s expectations. The line 3 indicates this will also be an area of exploration and experiential learning.

I Ching guidance for this influence, Line Line 3 – A lax attitude at home or at work is creating an undercurrent of permissiveness, creating the opportunity for certain individuals to take more and more for granted. Channel of Administration

Gate 37 is part of the Channel of Administration (aka, The Bargain). Since I don’t have the other Gate for this channel (40) activated in my circuitry, I’ll be electromagnetically drawn toward people who do, and I’ll live out the theme of this Gate in those relationships. People who have a hanging Gate 40 will be equally drawn to me and the relationship will be a learning experience for this channel for both of us. (If I’m in relationship with someone who has the full channel activated, I’ll be just as drawn toward them but that electromagnetic factor won’t be reciprocated, and it will be more of a learning experience for me than for them.)

Since this channel forms a connection from Will to Creativity, it reflects the relationship between emotional wisdom and self-worth. Relationships that bring activation to this channel for me will also create the effects of activation in both my Will and Creativity Centers. It’s not true activation because it’ll only occur as part of our energetic interaction; the less I’m around the person, the less I’ll feel the sense of activation. If I grew up with Gate 40 activation in my family, I likely took on my sense of agreements from those relationships, whether novice or wise. If I was taught novice expression, I’ll gain wisdom and move toward maturity as I overcome challenges in my adult relationships.

An interesting aspect of the activated Gate 40 is that the person is inclined to perceive agreements where no explicit agreement has been made by the other person and be very adamant about the other person upholding this spoken agreement. They tend to operate from a “quid pro quo” perspective and are significantly impacted if “the deal” is “broken” (even unspoken agreements). For instance, it’s likely they’ll be incapable of forgiving infidelity.

The novice expression of this Channel is making and keeping agreements due to perceived lack, such as marriages for mutual material gain. When I form a complete channel through relationship, the lessons for me to learn are to value myself and others enough to create agreements that express that inherent value, to make aligned and honest agreements with trust in the flow of abundance, and to create from sufficiency and “enough-ness.”

Wisdom and optimal expression of this channel is making sustainable agreements that create the peaceful administration of resources and energy and honors the need of those involved to follow their Hearts. This theme is also important to growth in the Line 4 of my profile since sustainable agreements contribute positively to strong foundations and interpersonal stability.

Non-activating Channel Influences

Gate 40

Exuberance (40.4, more apparent; 40.6, less apparent) – This aspect shows my pathway to vitality and youthfulness. It encourages me to pay attention to what truly influences me as a long-term goal, and it’s a strong indicator of where I desire to be of service in practical and useful ways. I’ll desire to be useful and help others through keeping agreements, and the trick will be learning that I can only truly be of service through wise agreements.

The lines indicate that the theme of this Channel has a strong impact on my Profile. Learning to form self-affirming agreements that respect the value, integrity, and authenticity of all involved will be an important component of developing stability and of what I’ll model in stage 3 as an Adept.

I Ching guidance for this influence, Line 4 – In reviewing all the factors needed for Deliverance from a situation, it’s important not to take anything for granted. Sometimes what imprisons us is exactly what we cling to for security, whether it is a work environment, a set of conforming routines, or a group of old friends. Make sure that you are not trying to hold on to anything that has the potential to grow into a familiar old prison before you can even begin to spread your wings and fly into the new.

I Ching guidance for this influence, Line 6 – Like the flash of lightning in a dark night, Deliverance can sometimes bring just a brief moment of illumination. If you’re busy looking at the light show in the sky, you’ll miss the opportunity to look around you and take note of the contours of a landscape that has previously been hidden. You’ll need to stay present and be alert in order to get all the information you need so that you’ll know where to go once the moment has passed.

Magic (40.6, more apparent; 40.3, less apparent) – This aspect gives me bewitching qualities in this Channel. It shows where I can magic away things that displease me. But I can’t put to sleep those troublesome parts of myself or live in perpetual chaos while hoping things will magically transform. This influence gives me incredible skills of transformation in this Channel, and it’s where I must become conscious of my motivation and intentions.

The line 3 being less apparent means I’ll be learning about this through exploration and experiential learning without being aware of it. Once I become aware of this influence and my need to use it wisely, I’ll incorporate what I’ve learned during stage 2 of my line 6 Profile and it’ll become part of what I’ll model in stage 3 as an Adept.

I Ching guidance for this influence, Line 3 – One of the heady side effects of deliverance from restrictive conditions is that it is easy to get carried away by the sudden sense of liberation. But this is probably not the best moment to launch any grandiose new schemes, nor is it wise to let your head outgrow your hat. Ultimately the art to learn is how to watch the pendulum swings of life, not to get caught up in the thrill of the ride.

Revelation (40.2, less apparent) – This aspect shows where I have direct access to universal/Divine order and the ways in which I can best share that with humanity. The line 2 indicates that I’ll need time/space alone to develop understanding and wisdom for this Channel, so that will likely be during stage 2 of my line 6 Profile.

I Ching guidance for this influence, Line 2 – The aftermath of a particularly wild storm can either bring out the best or the worst in people as everybody scrambles to find their bearings. The wise will keep their wits about them in the knowledge that once all the excitement has passed, a newly washed and luminous landscape will reveal exactly where everybody stands. Make sure you are hanging out in a place where you’re going to be happy to be seen.

Affirmations for Wise Expression

• I am an agent of peace.
• My being, aligned with peace, creates an energy of contagious peace around me.
• I practice holding a peaceful frequency of energy.
• I respond to the world with the intention of creating sustainable peace.

Sound frequencies: listening while meditating on affirmations (or simply repeating them) can help with finding balance and healing.

Contemplations

    1. Have I experienced this theme in relationships? Where did the expression fall from novice to wise? What have I learned?
    2. What habits, practices, and routines do I have that cultivate my inner alignment with sustainable peace?
    3. How do I cultivate inner peace when I feel that my outer world is chaotic and disrupted?
    4. What do I need to do to cultivate a peaceful emotional frequency?
    5. What needs to be healed, released, aligned, and/or brought to my awareness for me to move forward with courage and faith?
    6. What needs to be healed, released, aligned, and/or brought to my awareness for me to act/create deliberately, avoid identifying with others’ emotional energy, and ask for what I want and need?
    7. What needs to be healed, released, aligned, and/or brought to my awareness for me to feel powerful in all aspects of my life?
    8. What needs to be healed, released, aligned, and/or brought to my awareness for me to make clear and strong choices?
(These questions are designed to put out into the universe as a request to be shown answers. It’s a good one to ask before meditating or going to sleep. Tapping on the center of my forehead while I ask the question(s) will help provide a physical signal to myself of my intention to process this while sleeping).

If I want more insight, I can always request a message from the universe.
