Terminology: definitions

This is a list of terms found throughout OBA and how I use them (in alphabetical order).

Ego – I use this term to refer to the aspect of self that is created by inhabiting a human body and living in a human world. It also refers to the aspect of self commonly referred to as “shadow.” It’s the part of us that perceives itself as separated from the Divine and all other beings. Due to this sense of separateness, the ego experiences wounding throughout life and is thus motivated by fear rather than love.

Higher Self – I use this synonomously with “soul” to refer to the aspect of every person that is eternal and cannot be damaged nor destroyed; its nature is love and light.

Spirit – I use this term the same way that Christ used it: the Divine influence that supports and guides all of us toward fulfillment and happiness to the extent we’re willing to receive.
